Hello, chelsea bulldogs alumni!

A letter from Project Chair - John Daniels:

Hello to All-
I’m very excited to be the chair of the fundraising committee for the Chelsea Sports Complex Project!  This is a 100% fundraised project.  This type of facility is a much-needed facility to provide an additional practice and skill work area for all of Chelsea’s outside field sports.  As most of you know, girls and boy’s participation in sports is extremely important in their overall development.  This facility will provide not only additional space for use, but a realistic field for these sports to practice on and work on their skills.  For years, and currently, the field sports have had to use gymnasium floors for practice and skill work simply for the fact they have nowhere else to go once the Michigan weather changes and they can no longer practice outside.  The facility will provide space all year long for Chelsea girls and boys ranging from ages 10 to 18 years of age.  The sports that can benefit from this turf field facility will be field hockey, lacrosse, soccer, baseball, softball, football and even the marching band.  Again, I want to emphasize being a Chelsea Varsity Softball Coach, trying to work on skill work and practice softball is very difficult with our current facilities.  All these outside sports do not get the effect and similar feel from a gymnasium floor that they would with a turf field, which is much more comparable to their outside field.

The most important objective with this project is to provide a year-round open space facility with a turf field that is a more realistic field for Chelsea girls and boys ages 10 to 18 years of age.  With this field they will be able to practice and participate in skill work in their sport year-round for years and years.  In season and off-season training will be available with this facility.

The Chelsea Schools are making every effort possible to provide a space for all these sports to use.  This facility will be a tremendous addition and more realistic practice and skill work field for years to come.

Proposed Location:  The current board approved site location is on the WSEC grounds.

Facility Structure:  See the drawings posted below for all details of the metal building that would be constructed.

Turf Field:  Artificial turf field will cover over ninety-five percent of the open space floor.  It will be very similar if not exactly like the football field we have now.

Netting:  Black protective netting will cover the entire inside of the facility.  All walls and ceiling.

Costs for Sports Complex/Facility:  $1.8-2.0 million dollars – This covers all labor and materials for prep work, excavating, metal building, all plumbing, heating, electrical, fixtures, hook ups with city, turf, and netting.

Yearly Maintenance:  All maintenance will be handled by the Chelsea School District.  This has already been agreed upon with the approval of this project from the Chelsea School Board.

Scheduling of Facility:  The scheduling will be handled exactly the way all scheduling of fields, gyms are being done currently.  This is through the school district and Parks and Recreation Department.

I can’t thank you enough for taking your time to consider being a donor to this much needed facility for girls and boys of Chelsea and our outside field sports.  I’m so proud to be the chair of this committee and a much-needed facility that will provide space year-round for our girls and boys of Chelsea for many years to come.

Sincerely,
John Daniels – Chelsea Sports Facility Committee Chair
